This is one of the greatest inventions I’ve seen in a long time. Using a charge in the saw blade, if it detects capacitance from human flesh it immediately halts and retracts the spinning blade. When pushing wood through at any reasonable speed, it’s supposed to stop before the blade cuts any deeper than 1/16th an inch. Probably does irreparable damage to the saw’s blade, but at least you keep your fingers.
Not that I have any use for a table saw, but if I did, I’d buy this one.

Having used a table saw quite a bit in my life I agree this is awesome.
If they could just make chainsaws safer…
Also, I can’t link my web page with the comment because of an open id error… But I’m not using open id.
I saw this saw on the high-speed camera show on Discovery Channel (?). It was REALLY cool, the inventor actually put his finger in front of one and they caught the whole event on camera! The entire saw was ruined by the event (the blade gets jammed back into the housing) BUT I would pay another $100 for a saw any day compared to the pain/cost of fixing the finger!
It destroys the blade as well as the catch mechanism, which is really built like an airbag. So it’s more than a simple fix and costs a good bit to replace. But the cost of just one major injury where you lose a finger or worse is so much greater. And when used in a commercial or industrial setting you have to look at lost productivity, workmans comp, liability, and everything else. This is an awesome invention.
